SAE
: I have a Supervised Agriculture experience that ranges all throughout the Equine area. My Father who passed away in melanoma in 2011, introduced me to this project as a UT Extension Agent for Sumner County. Growing up on a farm and riding horses at the local, district, and state 4-H competitions as well as competing in many equine knowledge competitions has greatly inspired me to expand my knowledge of the horse and how it can improve my leadership and teaching skills! It is without a doubt my favorite SAE.

Beach or Mountains? Beach

Early bird or night owl? Night owl

Favorite meal: Porterhouse steak

Favorite song: "Never Once" by ONE SONIC SOCIETY (Praise and Worship)

Favorite CDE: My favorite CDE has been the Horse Judging project because I have always had a deep passion for horses. I also enjoy educating others and teaching about Equine Evaluation especially after traveling to the National level in 2011 where Portland FFA placed 9th overall. I plan to pursuer a career in Agriculture Communications, so my SAE project has given me much preparation for my future goals and being involved in managing my horse farm has helped me perfect my knowledge and ignite passion for Equine.

Favorite Ag Class: My favorite Agriculture class is Livestock Management. In this class we learn the basic and advanced systems (respiratory, skeletal, muscular, nervous, etc.) of livestock animals in great depth. I love this class because I have grown up around livestock my whole life and it is a very effective class in that we get hands-on experience in the classroom when the local veterinarian comes to the school occasionally for demonstrations.

Describe a time when you set a goal within the FFA and were not able to meet it; what did you learn? Throughout my time as a local Portland FFA member, I have learned proper time management in that my sophomore year I had committed to too many contests. In that year I had literally no free time and I unfortunately could not finish every contest. However I learned from this experience by competing in the contests one at a time and properly dividing up my time to create a well time managed schedule.

What are you looking forward to most during your year as a Regional Officer? Being a regional officer I am especially looking forward to the ability to be able to attend the Regional CDE Competitions as well as attending this year's 2014 ROPE Conference! I'm also looking forward to meeting, talking, and spending time with FFA members from chapters across the entire Middle Region!
